Units of Measurement and Quantity Calculator

Add units to your line items and use the built-in calculator for m² and m³ jobs - so quantities are always clear and traceable.

Written by Alyssa Smith

Overview

Fergus now supports Units of Measurement (UoM) on quote and invoice line items, plus a built-in quantity calculator for square metre (m²) and cubic metre (m³) jobs.

Together, these features mean clearer quotes, fewer "wait, 50 of what?" moments, and a saved record of exactly how you landed on a quantity - so you can always look it up later.

Units of Measurement

What is does

You can now assign a unit to any line item - for example, metres, kilograms, bags, or litres. The unit appears alongside the quantity on the line item, making it immediately clear what's being quoted or invoiced.

Units are also visible to your staff on site through Quote Briefs in Fergus Go.

Available units

This release includes a set of predefined units. Custom units are not supported yet.

Note: Units of Measurement are not yet saved to Price Book items or Favourites. You'll need to set the unit each time you add a line item.

How to add a unit to a line item

  1. Open a quote or invoice from a job card

  2. Add or find the line item you want to update

  3. Click the unit field next to the quantity

  4. Select the appropriate unit from the list

  5. Save your changes

The unit will now display on the line item for both your team and your customer.

Quantity Calculator

What it does

For line items measured in m² or m³, Fergus now includes a simple calculator that lets you enter the dimensions directly - and saves those inputs in the document so you can refer back to them at any time.

For example, instead of just seeing 188m² on an invoice, weeks later with no idea how that figure was reached, you'll see the original measurements (e.g. 23.5 m x 8 m) stored right there in Fergus.

How to use the calculator

  1. Open a quote or invoice from the job card

  2. Add a line item with a unit of or .

  3. Click the calculator icon next to the quantity field.

  4. Enter your dimensions (e.g. length and width for m², or length, width, and depth for m³).

  5. Fergus calculates the total quantity and fills it in automatically.

  6. Save your changes.
