To get started, head over to ⚙ Settings > Email and click Use custom email settings:
The standard SMTP settings for Gmail are:
Username: (The email address you want to send from)
Password: (You will need to generate an App-Specific Password from your Email account)
Host: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 587
SSL/TLS: TLS
Note: Your SMTP Username should match with your Default/Accounts Email.
Enable 2-step verification
Enable 2-step verification
Start with turning on and setting up a 2-step verification (skip to Generate an App Password from Google Account if it has been enabled already.)
Open your Google Account.
In the navigation panel, select "Security".
Under “How you sign in to Google,” select "2-Step Verification"
Click on "Get Started"
Follow the on-screen steps.
After activating and configuring the 2-step verification, you may proceed to generate an app-specific password.
Generate an App Password from a Google Account
Important: To create an app password, you need to enable 2-step Verification on your Google Account first.
Please click here to Generate an App Password from your Google Account. You may need to sign in to your Google Account.
Enter Fergus to indicate that the App Password will be used for Fergus SMTP Settings, and then select "Create"
From there, highlight the 16-character password shown to copy the password.
Click on Done
Go back to your Fergus Email Settings page and paste it into the Custom SMTP Password field.
Enter the other SMTP settings provided above and then click on "Save SMTP Settings".
You will see a green banner at the top of the screen if the settings are correct.
If something's not right you'll see a message saying "These settings don't seem to be correct". You'll also get a link to the full error message:
Before contacting Fergus Support, have a word with the person who set up your work email and give them the error message.
If you’ve set up 2-Step Verification but can’t find the option to add an app password, it might be because:
Your Google Account has 2-Step Verification set up only for security keys.
You’re logged into a work, school, or another organization account.
Your Google Account has Advanced Protection.
