Scheduling jobs is essential for trade businesses to ensure efficient use of time and resources. It reduces downtime, prevents missed appointments, and helps assign the right technician to each job. Effective scheduling also leads to better customer service, faster job completion, and ultimately higher profitability.
How Can Fergus Help?
The Fergus calendar provides a comprehensive overview of booked jobs, jobs that still need to be scheduled, and your team member's availability. Once a job is assigned or scheduled, the team members will receive notifications and access to the necessary tools through the Fergus Go app to complete the job.
When is a Job Ready for Scheduling?
After a job is created, it moves to the Scheduling column on your Dashboard, indicating it’s ready to be assigned or scheduled.
If a job requires a quote or estimate, it will first appear in the Pricing column. You can assign and schedule a team member to visit the site and provide a quote.
Where Can You Schedule in Fergus?
You can schedule jobs whether you're in the office or on-site.
From the Fergus web app: Schedule jobs or events (like Annual Leave or Toolbox Talks) via the Job Card for individual jobs or directly from the main Fergus Calendar.
From the Fergus Go app: Schedule jobs through the Job Card or create custom events from the Home screen.
What’s the Difference Between Assigning and Scheduling a Job?
Assigning a job means allocating it to a staff member before adding it to the calendar. Assigned jobs appear on the Assigned Jobs list in the Fergus Go app for easy access.
Scheduling a job involves adding it to the calendar for a specific date and time. Once scheduled, the staff member is notified, and the job will show up in their Schedule in the Fergus Go app.
Additionally, you can assign user groups to jobs for easier group tracking, and assigning specific staff also helps filter the schedule more effectively.
How to Assign & Schedule from a Job Card
When you schedule a job, an event is created. You can create multiple events for a single job or job phase. The Assignment & Scheduling tab on the Job Card helps you find the right person for the job and manage their bookings:

Use the Assign dropdown to assign users to the job, or groups for group tracking:
Clicking the "Schedule" button opens the calendar, allowing you to assign people to work on the job. If specific staff members or groups have already been assigned, the calendar will automatically filter to display only those individuals. You can adjust the filtered staff selection in the top left corner of the calendar.
If you need to reschedule an event, the quickest way to do so is to click the View in Calendar button beside it:
Once everyone's time is entered, you can click Mark labour as completed if they have not done so themselves:

How to Schedule a Job from the Calendar
To schedule a job event in the Fergus Calendar:
Drag and drop a job from the Job List into the schedule.
Click on a job and select 'Schedule Event' from the pop-up.
Double-click a job in the Job List to open the event drawer, enter the event details, and click Schedule.
Click or click and drag on an open time slot in the schedule. You can create a new job from here or search for and select the job you want to schedule.
Once scheduled, a tick will appear on the job in the list so you can keep an eye on which jobs have and have not been scheduled today.
