What is the Fergus MCP Server?

An introduction to the Fergus MCP Server - what it is, what it can do, and how to get connected.

Written by Alyssa Smith

Overview

The Fergus MCP Server connects AI assistants - like Claude and ChatGPT - directly to your Fergus account. Instead of copying and pasting information into a chat window, the AI can look up and act on your real Fergus data in real time.

Think of it like giving an AI assistant a login to Fergus. You can ask it to search jobs, pull invoices, update quotes, check calendars, and more - all through a conversation, without leaving your AI tool.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and data sources.

Without MCP, asking an AI about your Fergus data is like calling a knowledgable advisor who has never seen your business. With MCP, it's like giving that advisor direct access to your systems - they can look things up, take action, and give you answers grounded in your actual data.

What can the Fergus MCP Server do?

Once connected, an AI assistant can interact with your Fergus data across these areas:

Which AI assistants work with it?

The Fergus MCPP Server works with Claude and ChatGPT.

Claude is the recommended starting point - setup takes just a few minutes and the connection syncs automatically across web, desktop, and mobile. ChatGPT also works but requires a few extra steps to get started.

Who can use it?

To connect to the Fergus MCP Server, your Fergus account must have:

  • User type: Full User

  • Permissions: Master User

This is because the MCP server has access to the same data as a Master Admin - including financials, all jobs, all customers, and more. Access is restricted to users who already have those permissions in Fergus.

Please Note: Not sure what your user type or permissions are? Go to

Settings Users in Fergus, or check with your account admin.

How do I get started?

Access is currently available on request. Contact our support team (support@fergus.com, or reach out via live chat) and we'll confirm your account is set up correctly and get you connected.

Once you have access, follow the setup guide for your preferred AI assistant.
