Whats changing with your NSW CCEW add-on

Everything you need to know about the 1 August 2026 transition to BCNSW eCert, including Frequently asked Questions.

Written by Alyssa Smith

Overview

From August 1 2026, the NSW Government no longer accepts PDF or handwritten Certificates of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW). All new CCEWs must be lodged electronically through Building Commission NSW (BCNSW).

Fergus now has a built-in NSW eCert certificate that lets you complete and lodge a CCEW directly from a job - no separate BCNSW portal login, and no account linking required.

What do I need to do?

Before your team can lodge a CCEW from Fergus, a few one-time settings need to be in place in Settings → Certificates:

  • Enable the NSW eCert certificate

  • Ensure your company ABN, address and email are correct in your general company settings.

  • Record each electrician's license number, license state, expiry date, and whether they're a certifier.

This is a one-time, company-level setup - not something each electrician does individually. See Getting started with NSW eCert (CCEW) for full setup steps.

⚠️ Important: Only a user marked as a certifier with a valid license can submit a CCEW. Electricians without a license number, or with an expired license, risk having the certificate rejected by BCNSW.

What happens to my past PDF certificates?

Certificates you've already generated and lodged remain saved against their jobs in Fergus and are unaffected. Past PDFs are valid records of completed work. The change only applies to new lodgments from 1 August 2026.

Q - What if I haven't set up NSW eCert before 1 August 2026?

Q - Will this work from the Fergus Go mobile app?
