What Are Job Phases?

Job phases in Fergus allow you to break a job into multiple parts, helping you track costs more accurately and stay organised.

Phases are typically used for jobs with multiple stages—for example, rough-in and fit-off. Each phase gets its own job card, meaning you can:

  • Set different schedules

  • Track separate time entries and materials

  • Keep everything under the same overall job

Additionally, job phases move independently through the status board, making it easier to track progress for each stage separately, just like any other job.

How to Use Job Phases

Adding Job Phases

Every job in Fergus starts with one phase, which is why the job number has a letter at the end—like Job-1a.

To add more phases:

  1. Go to the bottom left corner of the job card.

  2. Click "Add Job Phase".

  3. Enter a title and description.

  4. Click Save—and just like that, you have Phase B!

Now, you can switch between phases as needed. Each phase keeps its own costs and schedule. For example, if you schedule a task in Phase B, it won’t appear in Phase A.

Users in the app will see the specific job phase in their schedule and proceed accordingly.

Invoicing Job Phases

You can invoice job phases separately, which is especially useful for charge-up jobs where you’re not invoicing from a quote.

To invoice a specific phase:

  1. Navigate to Invoicing.

  2. Click the dropdown on the right and select "Add costs from job(s)".

  3. Choose the phase you want to invoice.

  4. Click "Add to Invoice".

  5. Approve the invoice and check the tick boxes on the left. This tells Fergus which phases are fully invoiced. Only tick the phase you’re billing for at that moment.

Checking Financials for Each Phase

To review financials for each phase:

  1. Open the Job Card.

  2. Go to Financial Summary.

  3. Scroll down to the Job Phase Breakdown table.

  4. Compare all the numbers side by side for better financial tracking.

Conclusion

Job phases in Fergus make it easy to stay organized, track costs properly, and invoice efficiently. Whether you’re managing a job with multiple stages or need detailed cost tracking, job phases ensure everything stays clear and structured.
